BHP Invent, MIT spinout trial copper and gold recovery technology from waste streams

Copper scrap metal pieces and shavings on a conveyor belt, industrial waste recycling process

Massachusetts-based startup SiTration says it has completed five weeks of prototype test work on its patented processing technology in collaboration with BHP’s (ASX: BHP) Innovation team (BHP Invent) and Copper South Australia

The testing, focused on extracting gold and copper from waste streams, successfully recovered bullion-grade gold (99.99% purity) and achieved 99.9% purity in copper recovery, said SiTration, a spinout of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The demonstration “signifies a significant breakthrough in mining innovation, pioneering efficient and low-cost electro-extraction technology to recover minerals from waste and processing streams,” SiTration said.
