What the US science and technology council reveals about the country’s industrial playbook

US President Trumpʼs science and technology board is stuffed with Silicon Valley elite,
revealing how his administration is prioritising innovation as the line between politics and
private companies blur.

The inaugural form of the Presidentʼs Council of Advisors on Science and Technology
(PCAST) was initiated under Franklin Roosevelt in 1933.

Ever since, the White House has relied on an expert advisory panel to guide the President on
innovation and ensure that the US not only adapts to a future increasingly shaped by
technology, but leads it.

The Trump administrationʼs most recent council announcement reflects a shift in personnel of
the board typically composed of academics. Instead, it is stacked with names from industry,
most notably from the orbits of AI and crypto.
